CFP: UnDisciplined Graduate Conference (Queen's University, April 24-25, 2021)

Deadline: December 31st, 2020

Conference: Hosted virtually by Queen's University, situated on unceded Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee Territory, in Kingston / Katarokwi, Ontario.

“It is in collectivities that we find reservoirs of hope and optimism.”

— Angela Y. Davis, Freedom is a Constant Struggle

UnDisciplined is a graduate student conference for scholars whose modes of inquiry intersect the humanities, social sciences, sciences, technology, activism, and the arts. The above quote from Angela Davis both guides our approach and animates our call, which seeks to engage the broad ways in which collectives enact changes in society. Davis’s words are especially relevant in this troubling climate ruled by the isolation of academic work and rife with celebrations of white supremacy.

While our sixth annual conference will embrace the versatile and accessible opportunities generated by a virtual platform, we also acknowledge the limitations of such platforms in fulfilling our need for connections and collectivities within/outside of/regardless of academia. Through moderated panels, we hope to not only theorize or describe collectivities, but also consider these convening spaces as potential grounds for forming new affinities.

We invite submissions that transcend or crack disciplinary boundaries in theory and method, abstraction and enactment, so as to challenge, transform, and illuminate the world around us. In this spirit, UnDisciplined brings together researchers focused on areas and fields, rather than disciplines and traditions, and advances research that poses problems and questions the disciplining of thought in academia. Thus, there are no restrictions to the range of topics that could be presented by students. In addition, we welcome graduate work in many forms: scholarly presentations and papers, performances, workshops, and creative research projects (i.e. research-creation, or practice-based research).

Applications are open until December 11, 2020.

Please complete a digital application package here. In the portal, we will request the following: identification details, an abstract (250 words), a biography (100 words), as well as 5 keywords.

All questions should be directed to undisciplinedqueensu@gmail.com.

We look forwards to receiving your submission!
