Yesterday, two of our Master’s students submitted their thesis after months of intense work. Now that the hardest part of the work is done, it’s time for us to congratulate them on their accomplishment.
With that in mind, please send all your love to Jesse Balzer and Malory Beazley, who really did some terrific work. Jesse’s thesis is entitled “New Line Cinema, Jackie Chan, and the Anatomy of an Action Star” and deals with conglomerate Hollywood through an analysis of the image of Jackie Chan as it was crafted by New Line Cinema in the mid-1990s.
On her part, Malory wrote a thesis called “Out of the Cupboards and Into the Streets!: Harry Potter Genderfuck Fan Fiction and Fan Activism” which analyses the pedagogic function of queer spaces that emerge in online fan fiction communities.
Both of these are very original texts, and they are probably the best theses I’ve read so far. Should you be interested, you will be able to read them in a few months, after they go through their examination process.
