“Singulier Pluriel: Collectivity, Community, Engagement” – Art History Graduate St

Singulier Pluriel: Collectivity, Community, Engagement March 7 and 8, 2014 York Amphitheatre, EV 1.605

The Art History Graduate Student Association at Concordia University will be hosting a two-day interdisciplinary conference called Singulier Pluriel: Collectivity, Community, Engagement. This conference being held March 7-8 will feature critical research by graduate students from across Canada and the United States. The following is the description of the even as given to us by the organizers:

“Sixteen presenters have been selected to interpret and question the theme, considering the role of the individual amidst collective forms of artistic practices, curatorial efforts, organizational structures, and publishing platforms. This conference brings together a range of emerging art practitioners, curators, educators, and writers from across North America to engage with, question, and develop knowledge around the workings of collaboration in the arts.

Canadian artist and curator Micah Lexier has been invited to deliver the keynote address, as we believe his practice reflects relevant issues brought forward by this year’s theme. He will be speaking on his recent ambitious curatorial endeavour, One, and Two, and More Than Two (2013-2014), presented at The Power Plant in Toronto.

Conference attendees are invited to a cocktail reception following the closing session. All sessions are free and open to the public.

The complete programme, along with the abstracts and presenters’ bios, are attached to this email and can also be found on the conference’s Facebook page.”
