University TV – Screening & Discussion
Concordia’s Media History Research Centre will be presenting “University TV – Screening & Discussion” tomorrow Friday March 7, at 3pm in VA-114.
It will be hosted by Charles Acland and Christine Mitchell, and the panelists include Judith Herz (English), Howard Fink (Sociology), Nancy Marelli (Archivist Emeritus), and William Buxton (Communication Studies).
The MHRC is pleased to invite you all to a free special screening and discussion of two experiments in university television. In 1961, Sir George Williams University produced a short series of half-hours programs, with the local CBC affiliate, to extend university life into the city. We will screen two of these – ‘The Humanities’ and ‘The Role of the University’ – followed by a panel discussion on the history of the university’s relationship to changing media contexts and on the legacy of Concordia’s innovative efforts in media pedagogy.
