Upcoming Conference “Porting Media II” October 12-14 at Concordia & McGill

From October 12th to 14th Concordia and McGill will host “Porting Media II”, a conference investigating the transportation, translation, and reconfiguration of media within particular sites. The conference will feature a series of panels and lectures, including two promising keynote lectures:

Deborah Cohen (Geography and Planning, University of Toronto) presenting the Opening Keynote “Porting Infrastructure: Cartographies of Logistics Space” on Thursday, October 12th, 5:30-7pm at the Moyse Hall, McGill University.

Ramon Lobato (School of Media and Communications, RMIT University, Melbourne) presenting the Closing Keynote “Geographies of Streaming” on Saturday, October 14th, 5-6:30pm at EV 6.720, Concordia University.

From the website:

“Porting Media is a conference and workshop that draws on the nuances of the word “port” to investigate the transportation, translation, and reconfiguration of media within particular sites. Porting is a concept and metaphor useful for rethinking discussions of circulation and infrastructure; media transposition (or transmedia); game and cell phone cultures of portability; media archaeological approaches to portable technologies of transmission and telecommunication; and the porting of paradigms of analysis across different geographies and institutions. Thus, porting draws together multiple phenomena that participants will investigate together, in a manner that cuts across these multiple sites of inquiry.”
